Below you will find step-by-step instructions on how to take a screenshot.

Windows

There are two ways that you can get a screenshot on Windows.

Snipping Tool

Step 1: Open the Snipping Tool app  

Step 2: Click on New and then click and drag a selection box around what you want to take a screenshot of. Then click Save Snip.

Step 3: Select where you wish to save your screenshot and what filename you want to give it and click Save.

Print Screen

This will take a screenshot of your entire screen.

Step 1: Press PrtScr on your keyboard.

Step 2: Open MS Paint.  

Step 3: Click on the Select tool.  

Step 4: Right click on the blank canvas and click on Paste.

Step 5: Click on File > Save to select where you want to save your screenshot and what filename you want to give it.


macOS

These are the two most useful ways of taking a screenshot using a Mac.

Capture a window

Step 1: Press + Shift + 4 on your keyboard.

Step 2: Press the Spacebar. The pointer changes to a camera.

Step 3: Click a window to capture that window.
To exclude the window's shadow from the screenshot, press and hold the Option key while you click.

Step 4: Find the screenshot as a PNG file on your desktop.

Capture a selected portion of the screen

Step 1: Press + Shift + 4 on your keyboard

Step 2: Drag to select the area of the screen to capture. To move the entire selection, press and hold Spacebar while dragging.

Step 3: After you release your mouse or trackpad button, find the screenshot as a PNG file on your desktop.
