How to troubleshoot microphone and audio issues

Below you will find step-by-step instructions on how to set up your audio before joining the Zoom meeting room.


What you'll need:

  • A microphone, such as a built-in microphone, a USB microphone or a headset with a microphone attached
  • In-ear or over-ear headphones

Windows

Step 1: Click on Test speaker and microphone

Step 2: When testing your speaker/headphones, a pop-up will display and a tone will play. Confirm whether or not you are able to hear the tone.

Step 3: When testing your microphone, speak into your microphone. Once complete, select yes or no if you are able to hear your voice played back to you.

Step 4: After completing the test for both your microphone and speakers, you will receive a confirmation for each successfully completed test.

Step 5: To allow other meeting participants to hear you in a Zoom Meeting, you will need to choose how you would like to join audio for the meeting. Click to Join with Computer Audio.

NOTE: If you do not select Join with Computer Audio, an alert message will notify you that the recording will not include audio and will provide you with the option to select to Join Audio for the recording.


macOS

Step 1: Click on Test speaker and microphone

Step 1: A pop-up will display stating Zoom would like to access the camera. Click Got it.

Step 2: A second pop-up will display stating Zoom would like to access the microphone. Click Got it.

Step 3: Once you enter the meeting room, select Audio in the bottom-left of your screen and then select Call via device audio.


QUICK TIP: The Zoom mobile app also features safe driving mode. When you join the meeting, swipe right. Your microphone will be muted and video will be stopped. You will be able to listen to the session and can use the Tap to speak function to contribute.


iOS

Step 1: A pop-up will display stating Zoom would like to access the camera. Click Ok.

Step 2: A second pop-up will display stating Zoom would like to access the microphone. Click Ok.

Step 3: A third pop-up will display stating: To hear others, please join the audio. Click Call using internet audio.
