Navigating the Identity Verification activity

The NetVerify® service is integrated into the Online Campus to ensure students provide information that is associated with the identity of a real person. The service will verify the authenticity of physical identity documents such as an ID book, ID card or passport. Your data will be handled securely according to our privacy policy.

Below you will find step-by-step instructions on how to verify your identity.


Step 1: Navigate to the "Verify your identity" activity, this is contained in your Orientation Module. Once you reach the "Verify your identity" activity, click on the activity to begin. The activity will appear as below

Step 2: Click on Start ID verification

Step 3: Choose the country of issue - This country is automatically detected based on your IP address. If the country of issue on your document is different to the one shown here, click the drop-down list and select the correct country

Step 4: Once you confirm the country of issue, you will be presented with all available verification methods for that country. Select the document type you wish to proceed with

Step 5: You will now need to capture an image of your chosen document type using the camera on your device or by selecting a file from your device

Step 6: Ensure that the picture you capture or select has all the information in view with no glare or blockages

NOTE: Only JPG and PNG file formats are allowed. If you only have a PDF copy of your document, read this article that details how to take a screenshot of the PDF to create an image file.

Step 7: Next, you will need to submit a picture of yourself that the system will use for a facial comparison

Step 8: The system will now perform a quality check of the images you have uploaded

Step 9: If the system can retrieve all the required information from the images you have provided, the upload will be sent for verification.

Step 10: Click on "Submit" and continue with the rest of the Orientation Module.

You will receive a notification on the Online Campus notifying you if the verification of your identity was successful or not.

If your identity has been verified as valid, a tick will appear in the Identity Verification checkbox on your Profile page and the activity will be marked complete on your Progress Bar.


The names that appear on your verified identity document will be displayed under the User Profile, Certificate Information section in Certificate First Name and Certificate Last Name. If these names are not displaying as they do on the document you used to verify, please contact studentrecords@getsmarter.com
