Wiki activities and how to use them

Modified on: 2017-07-26 12:14:19 +0200

A Wiki is defined as being “a website or database developed collaboratively by a community of users, allowing any user to add and edit content.”

The word “Wiki” originates from the Hawaiian language and means quick or fast. Wikipedia is one of the most well-known examples of a wiki. It is an online encyclopaedia, which has no authors, but millions contribute to and edit it.

It is a resource found in specific modules of the course where we encourage collaborative work amongst learners. This promotes sharing of the specific assignment process in an engaging manner.

How do I use it

Step 1: Access the Wiki activity in the specific module.

Step 2: Read and follow the instructions provided at the top of the page and populate your Wiki contribution accordingly.

Step 3:

  • Select "History" to read what others have written.
  • Select "Edit" to add your contribution. Always press "Save" when you are done.
Most importantly: the object of the Wiki, is not to remove contributions but rather to build on and enhance the knowledge base and add value to the content.

Copying and pasting onto the Wiki from another Source:

Once you have copied the text onto the Wiki -

Step 1: Highlight the text

Step 2: Select the 'AA' option from the toolbar, on the top left-hand side, which is shown in the image attached.

The entry should then be in the correct format.

Step 3. Lastly, do not forget to save your entry
